Listen to our podcast interview of Dr. Peter Seixas discussing historiography: how history is taught, what stories are told, by whom, and how. Especially, why history is important to teach. (time stamp 32:30)
This exciting institute will take you on an exploration of historical thinking, while examining the themes of immigration and aboriginality. As well, we will look at the broader substantive theme of cultural exchange across borders.
Plenary lectures will be presented by Dr. Peter Seixas and distinguished guests. Field trips will enhance the work conducted during the in-class portion of the institute.
NOTE: All students, credit and non-credit, will need to access the course VISTA site for readings and important program communications.
We would like to acknowledge the generous support of this program by The History Education Network / Histoire et Éducation en Réseau.

Dr. Seixas taught social studies in Vancouver schools for fifteen years before coming to UBC. Currently, in addition to teaching in the graduate and undergraduate programs, his major activities stem from his role as the founding Director of the Centre for the Study of Historical Consciousness.
