
Qualified teacher-librarians are urgently needed by many school districts! In co-operation with BC school districts, UBC is offering the Teacher Librarianship certificate program to help interested teachers get a good grounding in this exciting field.

It may be possible to apply EPLT's certificate courses to the Faculty of Education's Diploma in Education. If you are considering applying these courses (including those you wish to transfer from other institutions) to a Diploma in Education, now or at a later date, check the Diploma in Education webpage for details and instructions on how to apply. You are encouraged to do this before beginning your EPLT certificate program.

The 15-credit certificate program incorporates course work in educational leadership, inquiry-based learning, literacy, collaborative planning and teaching, information literacy, curriculum design and implementation, multi-media resources, and learning technologies Check with your district about preferred courses, selected from the following list. Online courses are administered through our office (EPLT).

Other UBC courses, or courses from other Canadian universities (such as the University of Alberta Teacher Librarianship program or the University of Victoria may also be approved; maximum allowable equivalent to 6 UBC credits). If you are seeking approval for a course not on the above list, please contact Marlene Asselin. Courses listed above can be applied to the Diploma in Teacher Librarianship if you wish to continue your studies, contact the Teacher Education Office (tel.604-822-5242) for information.
This certificate is open to all qualified teachers who hold an acceptable degree from a recognized university.
Once you have completed the five courses, you will need to apply for the Certificate from our office.
