Health Education for Educators

This program is consistent with a global movement that recognizes healthy children and youth are better able to learn and that schools are well suited to be able to influence students’ health.  Given initiatives such as HealthySchools and ActNowBC, this program contributes to the ongoing development of knowledge and skills in the area of Health Education for current educators.

Would you like to:

•  Achieve a Certificate (15 credits: 3 core courses and 2 electives), in one year, that can be a stand-alone or paired with another Certificate Program in order to receive a Diploma in Education. These may also qualify for TQS advancement (read more);
• Gain valuable knowledge and skills in how to develop, implement and evaluate an effective Health and Wellness curriculum, e.g., Health and Career Education K-7; 8-9, Planning 10;
• Expand your repertoire of teaching approaches for the implementation of Health Education;
• Share resources among the many learners in the program to increase your own toolbox?

Benefits of the Certificate Program:

• Learning – Educators tasked with implementing Health and Career Education K-7; 8-9 or Planning 10, will gain valuable knowledge and skills that enable you to be more effective in the preparation, implementation and assessment of the curriculum, particularly through actively engaging students;
• Flexibility – Taken over the course of one year through summer and winter session courses the timing is a compliment to your full-time practice as an educator; can also be combined with another Certificate program leading to a Diploma and may qualify for TQS advancement.
• Collegial – Involving colleagues from local and surrounding districts around topics of shared interest and mutual benefit;

  • Core courses provide the much needed edge for a beginning teacher, and others not familiar with implementing Health Education and promotion in schools, through developing a coherent approach to working with this challenging and exciting topic area;
