The cohort begins September 2012, with three weeks over two summers in Montreal.
This Master’s program consists of 30 course credits and is taught entirely in French, with the exception of certain readings in English (papers may be written in English). For that reason participants will need to be comfortable with written and spoken French.
In each year of the program, three courses will be taught from September to June. Students may attend these courses either in person in Vancouver or online via teleconferencing. In addition, all students will attend one three-week course in Montreal each July during the two-year duration of the program. Participants will be immersed in French language and culture in the heart of Montreal during this time.
Action research on learning a second language or on a theme related to French as a second language forms the core of this program. As a result, the program will include courses in research methods as well as courses related to bilingualism and the acquisition and teaching of a second language. In addition, students will investigate a specific topic relevant to their own classrooms.
Courses will be delivered over the two-year period according to the following schedule:
This program offers you two options. Participants who live within travelling distance of Vancouver attend face-to-face classes. Participants living elsewhere in British Columbia or across Canada can attend the same classes online via webconference. The only additional requirements are a reliable high-speed Internet connection and a headset with microphone.
BC candidates accepted into the program will be eligible to apply to the BC Ministry of Education (federal fund for bilingualism) for a bursary of $1,500 per year to help cover costs incurred while attending courses in Montréal.
